Updating to HourWorld™ 2.34 from HourWorld™ 2.10+
HourWorld™ is a frequently-updated project with new features and sizes being added every
few months. In an attempt to assist those of you who have been faithfully upgrading each
time a new version becomes available, we have added a new upgrading feature.
HourWorld 2.10 and later all store a file named HourWorld™ Prefs in the preferences
folder inside your system folder. This file contains the database of locations, your settings,
and your registration key.
Version 2.34, when first run, will read your old database and settings, and merge into that
additional cities from the new database, and keep your previous settings. Testing shows this
process to be reasonably reliable, but if your old database is corrupt for any reason, or the
operating system has built up a number of errors and is about to crash, the process may fail.
As extra insurance, before installing, please locate your previous registration key. You might
check your email records, or go to the registration screen on your previous version and write
down your registration key.
If you are a previous user, and are unable to get HourWorld 2.34 running properly, some-
thing may have gone wrong in the automatic upgrading process. You may clear the problem
by deleting the file "HourWorld™ Prefs" from the preferences folder inside your system
folder. Once this file is deleted, HourWorld™ will go through an initial installation. To
enable full features if this happens, you will need to re-enter your registration key.
If you are a registered user, and are unable to locate your registration key, you may get
it by email request to:
llpaul@hourworld.com
Once you have registered HourWorld™ 2.31, you may wish to protect your registration info
against a hard drive failure or other accident by making a copy of the "HourWorld™ Prefs"
file and saving it to a backup location. Alternatively, keep a copy of our email, invoice or
receipt with your registration key information.
If your "HourWorld™ Prefs" file is lost or damaged, HourWorld™ 2.31 will revert to running
as the feature-limited HourWorld™ Lite. While we are happy to email replacement keys free
of charge in case of hard drive failures or other accidents, we recommend making a backup of
the preferences file or our message to you with the registration key.
